A Dangerous World

A Guide to Surviving Disasters.

In order to understand the risks we face from various disasters, it is necessary to know the past history of these events. To re-quote Santayana:

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”

Welcome to A Dangerous World. Dr. Raven wrote this book in 2009 to inform readers of the various types of disasters that may occur at any time and to encourage people to prepare for these events so if and when they occur, they may survive and suffer a minimum of hardship. He has updated these excerpts from his book to reflect changes since that time.

It is essential that we have a basic understanding and awareness of the threats we face if we are to prepare adequately for them. We have conveniently categorized these threats in the dropdown menu for this section of the website. The four main categories of the drop-down menu are Precursors to Disasters, Man-made Disasters, Natural Disasters and Ideological Threats. We recommend you read the Precursors to Disasters section first.

Each main category in the A Dangerous World drop-down menu has its own side drop-down menu listing each specific threat within that category. Clicking on the main drop-down menu subject will take you to an overall summary of that entire topic. Clicking on a side drop-down subject will take you to that specific topic.
