INTRO TO MAN-MADE DISASTERS:

Man-made disasters are those caused by human actions and include acts of terrorism, conventional wars, nuclear/chemical/biological attacks, nuclear power plant emergencies, environmental contamination, and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) warfare. Potential contemporary man-made disasters due to ideological differences are discussed under a separate heading (Ideological Threats) in the main A Dangerous World drop-down menu. These include current religious and political conflicts in different geographical locations around the world.

Several disasters overlap the natural and man-made categories, including famine (caused by government or economic policies), floods (poorly constructed dams or faulty planning), and wildfires (arson or out-of-control burns). These latter subjects are discussed in the natural disasters section.
