What is MAGPIE?

MAGPIE is an acronym for the online center for Medical And General Preparedness Information and Education. The purpose of MAGPIE is to increase your awareness of the need for disaster preparedness, give you the tools to assess your situation, and provide you with the information you need to protect yourself and your family to the greatest degree possible. The first step is to understand the risks. The second step is to assess your vulnerability. The third step is to determine what you can do within your financial means to lower your risk of dying or being injured when and if disaster strikes. MAGPIE is here to educate, instruct and help you plan and manage your medical and general disaster preparedness programs.

We suggest you browse through our website. Click on “A Dangerous World” to read excerpts from Dr. Raven’s book by the same name. There you will learn the history of natural and man-made disasters, how they have devastated and decimated past populations, and how vulnerable we are to them today.

We encourage you to take our MAGPIE Disaster Vulnerability Test (we offer this free of charge as a public service). Once you determine your overall risk, you can either plan your own program from analyzing the various answers to the test, or you can request our MAGPIE Preparedness Scale and Next-Step Advice services in which we will rate your level of preparedness and guide you through steps to improve your program. We take into account the amount you are willing to spend on your preparedness program and how extensive a program you seek to accomplish. Whether you want a program for basic survival lasting several weeks, or an underground bunker with longer-term survival in mind, we can help. For more information, click on the “OUR SERVICES” button.
